This study is to wake up! those who are sleeping. Many Christians are sleeping right now. Not in the physical sense of sleeping, but spiritually. They are not reading their Bibles. They are maybe carrying on with their ‘old sinful ways’, partying, getting drunk, swearing, sleeping around, etc. They are not putting God first in their lives. Perhaps they are spending most of their spare time watching the TV. They believe and have accepted Jesus, but are not true followers, because their faith is not producing the good works that true faith does.
Wake Up Sleeping Church
The Bible reveals how we should live our lives. How are you spending your time each day? Do you give each day to Jesus? Do you spend most of your spare time with your Lord and Saviour, or with someone or something else? Whatever comes first in your life, that is your god! Are you truly putting the Creator and Saviour of this world first?
Matthew 5:6-11 ....'Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.' ....... Do you hunger for righteousness? Do you show mercy to others? Do you have a pure heart? Are you a peacemaker or do you cause strife? Are you being persecuted for your faith, or are you trying your best to fit in with the world? I think this one is a good test of whether we are doing things right, because we know that the world hates the true followers of Jesus ......John 15:19 ...'If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.' ...... So if we are loved by the world and do not suffer any persecution, then maybe we are not putting our faith on the line enough for Jesus.
Matthew5:16 .....'Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.' ..... We are not to receive this 'light' from Jesus and then hide it away. We need to shine for Him and do all for His glory.
If we truly love the Lord Jesus, then we should have a desire to study His Word every day, to find out how He wants us to live our lives. We need to be like the Bereans were ..... Acts 17:11 ....'These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.' …..Unfortunately, many Christians are too busy watching TV. End times prophecy reveals that we are living during the very end time of earth's history, and yet the majority of professing Christians are continuing on with their worldly lives!
The Word of God is the very foundation of our faith. Think about it, it's what we base our faith on. If we did't have it, we would not know about God and what Jesus did for us. It's so important to study every day, so that we can grow in our faith in Him. The only way we can grow in our faith and in our relationship with Jesus, is to study His Word every day, pray every day and do the very things He reveals to us.
Note: A recent survey in the UK found that on average, people watched TV for between 3.5 - 4.5 hours per day! If you work into that equation that these people work also, then there isn't much time left to do anything else! It leaves no time at all to study the Word of God. Will God accept christians into His Kingdom who spent more time watching TV than with HIM? It's time to put that remote down and start really studying the Word of God. There's no doubt that the greatest idol of this time is the TV. It is said that by the time a child reaches the age of 6, they will have spent more time watching TV, than the time they will spend speaking to their parents in their WHOLE life!
James 4:4 ….' Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.' ….. Are you trying to be a friend of the World, at the same time as being a friend of God? You cannot be friends of both. Anything that we put before God, or spend more time with than God is an idol and causes us to commit adultery against God.
You may say, 'Well, I am saved by Grace and there's nothing I can do to change that.' See under grace not law. Yes, we are saved by the Grace of God, which is a free gift to those who believe and accept Jesus. But, what we do proves to God whether we have truly accepted Him or not. …. Mark 12:30 ….'And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.' ….. Do you REALLY know what this means? This isn't a suggestion. It's a COMMAND! What does it mean to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength? We are to give our all to Him, ourselves, our time, our possessions, it all belongs to Him. Give it all to Jesus, and let Him guide you as to how to use what you have for His will and His glory.
"It is diligently to be noted, the faith which bringeth not forth repentance, and love, and all good works, is not that right living faith, but a dead and devilish one. For, even the devils believe that Christ was born of a virgin: that he wrought all kinds of miracles, declaring himself very God: that, for our sakes, he suffered a most painful death, to redeem us from death everlasting; that he rose again the third day: that he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of the Father and at the end of the world shall come again to judge both the quick and dead. These articles of our faith the devils believe, and so they believe all that is written in the Old and New Testament. And yet for all this faith, they be but devils. They remain still in their damnable estate lacking the very true Christian faith." (John Wesley, The almost Christian)
Mark 12:24 ....'And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?' ...... If we don't know the scriptures, then we will fall into error. We need to study each and every day, and God will reveal His truth. We cannot understand the will of God in our lives if we are not prepared to study His Word.
Matthew 7:21-23 ....'Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.'
Matthew 7:13-14 .....'Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in there at: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.' .....The above verses from Matthew 7, should be a stark warning to all Christians. The narrow path is the only one that leads to eternal life and not everyone who thought they knew Jesus will be saved. There is a BIG difference between just knowing Him and actually serving Him. Satan knows Jesus very well, but he is lost.
I've been told by Christians many times that we shouldn't say to each other that we 'must do this' or 'must not do that', putting a burden on people. But what does the Bible say?
Ephesians 4 ......'you MUST no longer live as the Gentiles do.' ........' DO NOT let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths.'
Ephesians 5 .....'But among you there MUST NOT be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. NOR should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.' .......'Be very careful, then, how you live.' ......'DO NOT get drunk on wine.'
Philippians 2 .....'DO NOTHING out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.' ........'DO everything without complaining or arguing.'
Colossians 3 .....'But now you MUST rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. DO NOT lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.'
1 Thessalonians 5 .....'And we URGE you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.'
1 Peter 3 ....'DO NOT repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing.'
1 John 2 .....'DO NOT love the world or anything in the world.'
So how can we respond to the above verses? ......James 1:22 .....'Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. DO what it says.' ..... Do not be hearers only. Do not just read the Word, DO what it says.
Note: We are not to take all of this on ourselves, on our own shoulders. Jesus knows what we are going through and if we TRULY accept Him as our Lord and Savior and invite Him in, then He will come into our hearts and help us change through His Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 12:14 ....'Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.'
2 Peter 1:5-7 ....'For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.' ..... Many Christians think that they can sit back and relax, believing that they are saved no matter what. How deceived they are! We have a great effort to put in ourselves, as the above verses suggest. Jesus will help us, if we make the effort also.
Galatians 5:19-21 ....' Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall NOT inherit the kingdom of God.' ….. Are you getting this? If you continue in any of the things above, you cannot enter the Kingdom of God. God cannot allow sin to rise up again.
I've heard excuse after excuse from many Christians, who continue in sin, saying that they are under grace now, so it is ok. What does being saved mean to you? What does the sacrifice of the Son of God mean to you? Jesus gave His life for you! Do you fully understand that? The Son of God, the Creator of the heaven and earth, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, gave His life for you. Are you just going to say thank you and go to church once a week and then watch TV for the rest of the week? Jesus died for your sins. Are you going to carry on doing the very things that caused His death? We need to worship God in spirit and truth, and fleeing from the things of this world.
"Is the love of God shed abroad in your heart? Can you cry out, "My God, and my All"? Do you desire nothing but him? Are you happy in God? Is he your glory, your delight, your crown of rejoicing? And is this commandment written in your heart, "That he who loveth God love his brother also"? Do you then love your neighbor as yourself? Do you love every man, even your enemies, even the enemies of God, as your own soul? as Christ loved you? Yea, dost thou believe that Christ loved thee, and gave himself for thee? Hast thou faith in his blood? Believest thou the Lamb of God hath taken away thy sins, and cast them as a stone into the depth of the sea? that he hath blotted out the handwriting that was against thee, taking it out of the way, nailing it to his cross? Hast thou indeed redemption through his blood, even the remission of thy sins? And doth his Spirit bear witness with thy spirit, that thou art a child of God?" (John Wesley, The almost Christian)
The gifts of God's grace through Christ are free to all. There is no election but one's own by which any may perish. God has set forth in His Word the conditions upon which every soul will be elected to eternal life, which is obedience to His commandments, through faith in Christ. Every person is elected who will 'work out his own salvation with fear and trembling'. He is elected who will 'put on the armour of God' and 'fight the good fight of faith'. He is elected who will 'watch unto prayer', who will search the scriptures and 'flee from temptation'. He is elected who will have faith continually, and who will be obedient to 'every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God'. The provision of redemption are free to all, but the results of redemption will be enjoyed only by those who have complied with the conditions. (Patriarchs and Prophets)
Our Savior will return soon. Turn your TV off, turn away from your sins, study the Word of God and give your all to Him, before 'that day overtakes you as a thief in the night.
